Who We Are
Frugova Started with a Basket and a Question
In 2019, a small group of educators in Kuala Lumpur started asking a deceptively simple question: why is it so hard to spend less without feeling like you are missing out? They noticed that most spending courses were either dry and financial-adviser-heavy, or focused on dramatic cutbacks that few people could sustain.
Frugova grew from that question. The name comes from the idea of a frugal approach wrapped in warmth — like a well-packed basket at a market. Each item has a purpose. Nothing is wasted. And the whole thing feels good to carry.
Today, Frugova offers courses, workshops, and programs that help everyday Malaysians look at spending habits with curiosity rather than guilt — and build routines that actually hold up over time.
Our Mission
To make practical spending education approachable, honest, and genuinely useful for people living ordinary lives in Malaysia — with no jargon, no judgment, and no pressure.
Values That Shape Everything We Do
These are not aspirational slogans. They are the actual principles our facilitators carry into every session.
Kindness First
We meet people where they are, without making them feel embarrassed about where that happens to be.
Honest Clarity
We explain things plainly and avoid language that makes simple ideas sound harder than they are.
Practical Focus
Every idea in our programs connects to something a participant can actually try the following week.
Responsible Scope
We stay within our lane: general educational information, not personal or regulated financial advice.
The People Behind Frugova
A small, close-knit group of educators and community facilitators who genuinely care about the topic they teach.
Siti Liyana
Founder & Lead Facilitator
Spent over a decade in adult education before founding Frugova. Siti's sessions are calm, example-driven, and grounded in what actually works in everyday Malaysian households.
Ahmad Ruzaini
Workshop Facilitator
Ahmad leads the small-group workshops with a focus on building habits gently rather than overhauling everything at once. He has a gift for making group discussions feel safe and productive.
Nurul Hana Bt. Zainal
Program Content & Support
Nurul designs the course materials and templates used across all Frugova programs. She ensures every resource is clear, accessible, and reflects the actual spending landscape in Malaysia.
How We Maintain Quality
Every program at Frugova is held to clear internal standards so participants get consistent, trustworthy content.
Reviewed Content
All course materials are reviewed regularly against current Malaysian spending patterns and updated when context changes significantly.
Qualified Facilitators
Facilitators hold backgrounds in adult education or community learning, and undergo an internal orientation before leading any Frugova session.
Participant Feedback Loops
We collect structured feedback after every program and use it to refine content, pacing, and facilitation — not just once but continuously.
Ethical Content Standards
We never make claims about specific outcomes. All content is framed as general education and community learning, not individualised financial guidance.
Privacy Protection
Personal data shared with Frugova is handled responsibly under our Privacy Policy, and never sold or shared with third-party advertisers.
Inclusive Group Norms
Workshop guidelines create a space where participants from different income levels and backgrounds feel equally welcome and respected.
Spending Education That Fits Malaysian Life
Malaysia's consumer landscape is distinctive. From the hawker centre decisions most Malaysians make several times a week, to navigating monthly commitments like hire-purchase agreements and subscription services, everyday spending involves layers that generic overseas content rarely addresses.
Frugova was built specifically with this in mind. Every example, every template, and every discussion prompt in our programs draws on scenarios that feel familiar to people living and working in Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas. The aim is not to overhaul how people live — it is to help them notice where their spending aligns with what they actually value, and where it might not.
The Smart Spending Basics course works well for someone who wants a calm introduction: a chance to think through value comparison and purchasing decisions without any pressure to act on anything immediately. The Mindful Spending Workshop adds the dimension of shared conversation, where participants hear how others approach similar situations and often find that genuinely helpful. The Complete Frugal Living Program brings these elements together over nine weeks, with additional toolkit resources and facilitator check-ins to keep things moving at a manageable pace.
Frugova does not position itself as a provider of financial planning services. What we offer is community-based, educational, and designed to inform — not to direct. We believe people are capable of making their own decisions when they have clear, honest information to work from.
