What Participants Have Shared

A selection of feedback gathered from participants across our programs, including some of the more nuanced responses we have received.

FH

Faizul Hizam

Petaling Jaya, Selangor

"I was expecting something dry and finance-heavy, but the Smart Spending Basics course was actually enjoyable. The value-comparison template is now something I use almost every week when I am deciding between options at the supermarket. Small thing, but it adds up."

NR

Nurul Rashidah

Ampang, Kuala Lumpur

"The workshop discussions were what made it worthwhile for me. Hearing how others approached similar situations — groceries, subscriptions, eating out — was more useful than I expected. I would have liked one more session, but the four we had were well-structured."

KH

Khairul Hisham

Klang, Selangor

"Nine weeks sounds like a long commitment, and it is — but the Complete Program spread things out in a way that felt manageable rather than overwhelming. The check-ins from the facilitator kept me going through the middle weeks when motivation dipped a little."

SY

Syarifah Yusnita

Shah Alam, Selangor

"I appreciated that nobody at Frugova tried to tell me what to do with my money. Everything was framed as general information and ideas to think about — which made me actually more open to exploring the content rather than feeling defensive."

AM

Ahmad Marzuki

Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

"The habits checklist was surprisingly useful. I went through it expecting to find nothing I did not already know, and then realised I had three spending patterns I had not really noticed before. That alone was worth joining the course."

Lee Wan Qing

Puchong, Selangor

"The workshop facilitator created a really open atmosphere. People in the group came from quite different situations — some earning more, some less — and it never felt uncomfortable. The discussions stayed practical and nobody was made to feel they were doing things wrong."

Participant Journeys

A closer look at how three participants experienced their Frugova program from beginning to end.

ZA

Zainudin Abdul Rahman

Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur • Complete Frugal Living Program

Starting Point

Zainudin was spending more than he intended each month without being able to identify clearly where the money was going. He had tried budgeting apps but found them frustrating to maintain.

What He Worked Through

Over nine weeks, he worked through the awareness modules, applied the value-comparison template to his grocery and utility decisions, and attended live sessions where he heard how others approached similar situations.

After the Program

He identified three recurring spending patterns he had not previously noticed. He now uses a simplified version of the planning routine from the toolkit and finds it less effortful to maintain than the apps he had tried before.

"The nine weeks passed more quickly than I expected. I feel like I actually understand what I am doing now, rather than just trying to follow rules."
PM

Priya Menon

Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur • Mindful Spending Workshop

Starting Point

Priya felt she spent without much thought on dining and lifestyle choices and wanted to be more intentional — but had not found a framework that felt natural to use in daily situations.

What She Worked Through

The four workshop sessions gave her a structured way to look at value rather than just price. The group discussions about dining habits were especially relevant to her situation, and she found the peer perspective genuinely useful.

After the Program

She uses the comparison framework when making discretionary decisions and says she now pauses and considers choices more naturally rather than having to consciously remind herself to do so.

"The workshop felt like a proper conversation rather than a lecture. I left each session with something to think about — and something to try."
TK

Tan Kok Wei

Subang Jaya, Selangor • Smart Spending Basics

Starting Point

Tan wanted to understand where his everyday spending was going without committing to a long program. He chose the self-paced course because of its flexibility.

What He Worked Through

He completed the course over about two and a half weeks, going through the modules in short sessions during evenings. The value-comparison template was the resource he engaged with most.

After the Program

He found the self-paced format suited him well and said the habits checklist helped him notice patterns in weekend spending he had not previously connected to each other.

"It was a lot more practical than I expected. I thought it would be theory — but most of it was directly applicable to the kind of decisions I make every week."
